Daredevil Completes Frightening Stunt
Daredevil Completes Frightening Stunt, Daredevil completes harrowing rope walk across Chinese Grand Canyon, American Dean Potter makes history by walking on rope across the Chinese Grand Canyon. American daredevil Dean Potter on Sunday became the first person to walk barefoot on a rope across China's Enshi Grand Canyon -- and it's safe to assume that the two minutes it took to cross the 130-foot gap felt more like an eternity. With the canyon floor nearly 6,000 feet below, Potter accomplished the tenuous slackline crossing atop an inch-thick rope while wearing headphones and listening to music to help him focus. (Note that video is Chinese-language.)
Slacklining is more difficult than tight-rope walking because the rope, or some type of woven line, is not stretched taut and long poles for balancing are not used. Slacklining is more often performed at modest heights by climbers passing idle time but Potter, 40, a world-renowned climber and BASE jumper, clearly has taken this pastime to the extreme.
